Their Story

Bosco's Journey with Honey Pride

Bosco Edagiri is a young beekeeper from Enzeva Village in Ajono Parish, Vurra Sub-county, Arua. After dropping out of school, Bosco was looking for a way to build his future when he attended a skills training and discovered the opportunity in beekeeping.

"As a young person, I was looking for ways to organize my life, after dropping out of school. One time I attended a skills training and saw the opportunity in bee keeping. I also realized there was ready market. So, I decided to increase my hives and get serious with it."

For Bosco, beekeeping has delivered three life-changing results: financial independence, a productive purpose that keeps him busy and focused, and a reputation in his community. "Now I don't ask my parents for money. Secondly, it has kept me busy. When I am not doing other things like digging, I will be in my small apiary looking after the bees. Thirdly, I am now known around here as a bee keeper."

To Bosco, being a bee farmer means independence. "Now I realize it is profitable and therefore I can get money out of it. I don't want to depend on someone."

Despite challenges including limited land and unpredictable weather, Bosco's determination is unwavering. He plans to save enough to buy land, scale up his apiary, and build a life of full economic self-sufficiency. His story is proof that Uganda's young people can build sustainable futures from the land.
